16 ⅝ W × 16 D × 37 ¼ H in; 17 ¾ in seat height
A sculptural pair of Italian Renaissance Revival chairs based on the traditional X-frame Savonarola type, a folding seat form carried forward from earlier ceremonial seating into later domestic interiors.
Each chair is formed from curved wooden slats that rise from the base, cross at the center, and continue into the back as a continuous framework. The seat is composed of parallel wood slats set within the frame, with turned pegs and exposed joinery visible throughout. The crest rises in an arched, stepped profile, holding the upper line in quiet relief.
The chairs articulate through a folding mechanism. The intersecting slats draw inward, compressing the structure while maintaining curvature. The frame does not resolve into a flat plane; its form remains legible in transition and at rest.
The surface has been refinished, clarifying tone while preserving structure and joinery.
Forms of this kind moved between spaces rather than remaining fixed, used where seating was required but not permanent. The structure reflects that condition, balancing portability with presence.
Savonarola Linea introduces structure without visual weight. Placed in an entry, a study, or flanking a console, the pair holds its presence. Even in its most compact state, the profile remains legible.
Sold exclusively as a pair.
