This is a set of six dining chairs, sold together.
Dining chairs of this type emerged in the late 19th to early 20th centuries, when domestic interiors favored balance over display and furniture was designed to support daily ritual rather than ceremony alone. Vertical backs, carved splats, and restrained ornament established order at the table without imposing formality. The Windward Dining Chairs reflect that lineage, shaped by proportion, repetition, and structural clarity.
The set is unified in construction while allowing measured variation. Four chairs feature a lyre-inspired back splat with elongated vertical cutwork, while two present a related pattern that introduces distinction without disrupting cohesion. Carved from solid wood with hand-finished detailing, each chair is supported by turned front legs and squared rear supports that establish rhythm and stability, while warm wood tones allow the form to read with clarity and balance.
The seats are newly upholstered by Acanthus Home in a finely textured textile layered in soft blue, pale mist, and deep indigo. Restoration was approached with restraint. The original frames were preserved and carefully refinished to clarify tone while retaining age and surface character, and the upholstery was renewed to restore comfort and visual continuity across the set. No changes were made to the original structure or proportions.
Well suited to anchoring a dining table or structuring a secondary dining space, the Windward Dining Chairs function as working heirlooms. They are intended to be used, gathered around, and lived with, carrying forward a tradition of continuity rather than preservation alone.
Dining table sold separately.
Available through private acquisition.
